Yeah, affectations of machismo like "don't mess with Texas" ring a bit hollow when the majority of Texas voters and the bulk of their political leaders have repeatedly shown they are obedient lapdogs for a soft nepobaby covered in bronzer who spends most of his time golfing and whining.

it's not the main thing we need, but we do need a David Lodge style Changing Places exchange program so that professors realize the way their institution does things is not standard nor inevitable

One of my favorite celebrity affectations is Lorne Michaels namedropping famous friends a la "lunch with Bobby De Niro." One I've been workshopping, but which is not quite ready yet, is Lorne bragging about having lunch with Jersey Mike of Jersey Mike's. "Mike's a friend," etc. I'm working on it.
