Why Simple Maths Keeps Beating Billion-Parameter AI Cell Models — Artificial Science
A run of careful benchmarks shows that huge single-cell foundation models often fail to beat plain linear methods. Here is what the reckoning means for AI in biology.

AI is starting to do parts of discovery itself, not just speed it up. After VIPR, Minerva and Paper2Agent, agents mined 200,000+ RTs and found ART, a phage system with a CRISPR-like repeat array. What it does is still unknown. 🧬

A sample 1 mm too high shifts an XRD peak about 0.8°. A 785 nm laser sees 12 µm into silicon, a 532 nm laser 0.7 µm.

Same file, different causes. Only the instrument settings tell them apart.
