It took AKL airport 30 minutes to get stairs and a bus to where the plane is

For what it's worth, the suburban rail infra in Bristol, where I grew up, looks much the same as it did 20 years ago.
Yes there have been some major improvements, like four-tracking the line to Filton, but the whole system is still diesel powered; station investment has been limited compared w AKL.

That would smash the horrible early morning drive to the airport out of the park! I’d be a passenger if I was still doing Akl-Wgtn trips as much as I used to. (Now all my domestic work trips are Akl to Hamilton or Christchurch… )

I like the idea, it's bold. Akl-Wlg is probably the busiest air route, electrified line most of the way etc. but practically it's a long journey, with lots of slowing down and speeding up, and tight corners. It's not the rhythmic steady clickity-clack people imagine.

Can we criticise the Nats’ insane transport policies without insulting an age group. I know many boomers who are against more expensive roads. The non-boomer Nat candidate for AKL Central has repeatedly demanded more car parks near the CRL stations! She goes on about the “war on cars”.

I caught it to get to uni in 97 and 98. With luggage was still much cheaper than flying. Discount airfares weren't a thing . I flew for first time in 99 when flight prices dropped Akl-Wgtn.
