I’m a broken record but, whether your preferred candidate won or lost, ludicrous that election is determined by <1% of vote while ~20% went to others. Approval voting (yes to every acceptable candidate) would do a much better job of elevating consensus candidates and conferring legitimacy.

This toxic behaviour from political parties damages trust in politicians and damages #democracy. If we had #alternativeVote for by-elections with #proportionalRepresentation for general elections, the incentives to mislead like this would be much smaller and parties could behave with integrity more

Another key takeout from #LocalElections2025 MUST be to return to #AlternativeVote for mayors; where if no one gets >50% on 1st preferences, 2nd preferences are added, giving winners much greater legitimacy! Prof John Curtice has raised this, Labour members want this, & many more
