The ancient Welsh poem 'Preiddeu Annwfn', or 'The Spoils of Annwfn', contains one of the earliest depictions of King Arthur. It sees him journeying to the Otherworld in search of magical treasures.

To dig down through fourteen centuries of appropriation designed to recentre "British" identity around the Anglo-Normans, to reclaim King Arthur for Damnonia's trilingual melting pot of Cymry, Picts and Gael, and unleash all the hounds of Annwfn into the semiosphere against the ongoing Saxon menace.
Authors: what's YOUR pretentious goal for your current WIP?
It is! My pretentious goal statement for this one is that I’m trying to do to the desert southwest what @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social did to the swamp in Area X.

all my love to verrot for despising dogs yet being a black wolf. the hound of the wood, the carrion of the mountains. the black shuck, cwn annwfn, tchen bodu, the church grim. it reflects in his fear of the sea despite being the underworld's fetid waters bound in flesh. a mirror of his deepest self.

In the poem 'Preiddeu Annwfn', or The Spoils of the Otherworld, Arthur leads a voyage across the sea to steal the treasures of the magical realm of Annwn, including an enchanted cauldron kept warm by the breath of nine maidens.

With Calan Gaeaf finally here, when the veil between us and Annwfn is wafer thin, there are some little-known epic tales, passed down through the generations, which I will share with you today ✍️T E Rogers wp.me/p8Mk4U-18e2

Margan (Morgan) was a goddess from Annwfn. Yes, really! This is from Claddedigaeth Arthur, the Burial of Arthur, in Llanstephan MS 4, from around 1400.

It's the only example I can think of where a figure in Welsh tradition is referred to as a god or goddess.

The ancient Welsh poem of Preiddeu Annwfn, The Spoils of Annwn, recounts King Arthur’s voyage into the Otherworld. Arthur and his warriors venture to Caer Sidi, a fortress who's glass walls were perpetually shrouded in darkness, its ramparts guarded by six thousand silent sentinels.

The Welsh Marches boasts of various inhabitants from the aqueous realm, especially since water is often perceived as the gateway to the otherworld/Annwfn

In the Prydain books I like how Annwfn is Mordor but it’s also only like right down the road from where the protagonists live

Welsh folklore blends with Arthurian myth, where portals to #Annwn are subtle. In "Preiddeu Annwfn," Arthur's quest for a magical cauldron 🍲 suggests crossing realms via hidden caves 🕳️ or enchanted lakes 🌊. #FairyTaleFlash ⚡️🧚‍♀️ #portals

At his feet is one of the Cwn Annwn, the legendary white hounds of the Annwfn, he sits in a glade of silver trees and foliage of unusual colours, surrounded by a thick white fog. Above the constellation of Gemini glistens in the sky.

#LegendaryWednesday In the medieval Welsh poem
'The Spoils of Annwn'/'Prieddeu Annwfn' King Arthur
sails in his ship Prydwen, voyaging to the Otherworld to claim a mysterious cauldron. It's a cryptic tale found in the 14th cent ms of 'The Book of Taliesin', but may date to c.900AD #medievalsky

Many scholars see the magical cauldrons of Celtic myth as precursors to the Holy Grail of later Arthurian legends.
In one of the earliest Arthurian tales, 'Preiddeu Annwfn', Arthur himself leads an expedition to recover a magical cauldron in a mission reminiscent of later Grail Quest accounts.

One location in this challenging side-scrolling platformer comes from the mythical #Welsh Otherworld, Annwfn.

Ffynone Waterfall. According to folklore is the gateway to Annwfn (The Otherworld) and the meeting place of King Pwyll and King Arawn where they swap places for a year to right a wrong.
It is a very enchanting place.

The #LaMulana games feature a couple of #Welsh references.

An enemy in La-Mulana 1 is called the Water Leaper, based on the mythical Welsh creature Llamhigyn y Dŵr.

In La-Mulana 2, the land of Annwfn takes its name from the Welsh Otherworld, better known as Annwn.
