🚀 The GESIS AppKit is live! 🚀

Three years ago we started the project of providing "an App" for Social Scientists @gesis.org . Today, it is much more than that. It is a management system for mobile, intensive-longitudinal studies. Interested?

In the spirit of advocating for more native Mac Development, I wanted to share (early) my new app: Address Book.

It uses the Contacts API on Mac so it keeps everything in sync with your Contacts across your Apple devices — just a new UI for macOS. One that works.

Coming Soon. #AppKit #macOS

Current status: I'm tormenting ChatGPT forcing it to try to write AppKit code that animates an NSWindow and a view/layer inside it… so far AppKit is winning

This is probably something that iOS people knew all along, more likely never even realized was an issue. But I *just* figured out a better way to do multi-platform imports, after years of doing it the wrong way.

Looks like macOS 16 will have clipboard privacy protection. That's a good move!

This is like 99% SwiftUI - 1% AppKit

I’ll soon blog about it. That lame ass discourse ruined my morning mood.

Ohhhhhhh 👀👀👀

Proper Mac app for Bluesky! (works on Sequoia)

And looks very native, as far as I can tell (I think AppKit even?)

😍
Excited to announce that Aeronaut is now live in the Mac App Store! 🎉

After two years of tinkering, polishing, and obsessing over the little things, it’s finally here!

If you’re looking for a Bluesky app designed and built for macOS, take a look…

I made a state-driven Navigation system for macOS that is compatible with both SwiftUI and AppKit

My WWDC26 session just dropped: Use SwiftUI with AppKit & UIKit 💡

I walk through adopting SwiftUI in an existing app: Observation auto-updating your AppKit/UIKit views, embedding SwiftUI in your view hierarchy, bridging gesture recognizers, and SwiftUI scenes.

🚀 I’ve open-sourced a small macOS tool I use to extract .icns files from apps, files, folders, disks, and other locations.

Built with SwiftUI + AppKit, it lets you preview icons and export them as .icns

First Application Kit-drawn pixels on the screen.

A whole hell of a lot has to work for this to be here. Foundation, CoreGraphics, AppKit itself, to say nothing of the underlying X11R7 server and the various libraries I'm using.

I just released a new #Swift package - FontKit. 🚀 This is a tiny package that makes it super easy to define and use custom fonts in #SwiftUI, UIKit and AppKit. The first 0.1 is out, with a demo app and an embedded font that shows how to use the package.

Making my way thought, wrapping Qt6 in a safe Swift library. The feel I'm going for is "AppKit but Qt" while making all of Qt's awesomeness available to Swift apps. Swift's C++ interop has been amazing

One more reason to like @Observable: It isn't SwiftUI only. It works in AppKit and UIKit views too, so the same per property tracking spans all three frameworks.

for standard AppKit and UIKit controls -- like a button or text field -- the application gets this for free by virtue of those things already having text content. for image views, the text has to be provided by the application.

It's amazing how fantastic GPT is now at generating Swift / AppKit code and yet how absolutely shit it still is at generating images

I continue to struggle with making native MacOS apps. All abstractions leak but SwiftUI takes the crown.

SwiftUI seems to be the way forward, but bugs, and incompatibilities force you to learn the underlying AppKit framework SwiftUI attempts to abstract away.

"It’s a real Mac app — written mostly in AppKit, supporting all the right UI idioms and platform integrations. It’s not just the best Bluesky client I’ve seen, for any platform, but maybe the best new Mac app I’ve seen in years, period. Certainly the one whose very existence has made me happiest" 🍎

This time, exploring how you can fill the gaps in Mac Catalyst by using native AppKit components, right in your iOS codebase, with UIKit's private _UINSView class.
