Absolutely. Both are different skills, requiring different aptitudes. You don't practice sprinting when you're planning to run a marathon.
When I was starting out, we were told to start with short stories, learn your craft, and then maybe write novels later.
My hot take is that the skillset required to write novels is very different to that for short stories. I think this advice dates back to when SF novels were very different things.

It may be premature to treat this as traditional terrorism.
It sounds like this guy was one of the people everyone involved in Afghanistan said should be protected, bc going back would be a death sentence.

I cannot in good faith hire anyone right now that isn't ai-forward. This is really awkward because I know a lot of good devs who are very bizarre about these tools.. but I can see the writing on the wall.

There's a surprising amount of reluctance to view politics as a skillset. There seems to be an almost ideological commitment, in some circles, to the idea that untrained people with no relevant aptitudes make the best rulers. I can't think of many other fields of which this is true.

I was talking with somebody and they told me they didn't think they could have a career like I do, because they don't have specific aptitudes or competencies corporations want, and like... I don't at all blame this person, but this is a failure in our community of communicating what work is about

If someone constantly argues that women don't statistically have the same mental aptitudes as men, and tries to tell you that it's just Science and not because they're a sexist pig, you can point to the much strong empirical correlation between saying such things and actually being a sexist pig.
