the issue here is that a bunch of greedy assholes cheaped out on the real qualified professionals and put everyone on set in danger. this happens all the time in ways that don't involve guns and also get people killed. the problem is not the UNION armorers who use real firearms

But complex, later period armors were highly specialized. You had armorers who only made gauntlets. Or leg harness. The same shop might have dozens of specialized armorers working together to build a single harness.
