#ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #BlueskyMonday
A winter plumage male Common Reed Bunting perched on a branch in am ash tree in the golden sunshine. The bird is slightly right of centre of the shot, facing the camera with its head turned slightly to the left so that its front and the left side of its face are visible. The bird has a brown head, with a white eyebrow streak and moustache, it has dark eyes and a short, sturdy beak. The hint of its summer black bib is visible on the chest, its flanks are whitish with brazen streaks, turning to shite in the underbelly. Its pale legs are visible; as is the tail, which is pale underneath and has a distinctive fork. The bird is perched on a thin branch that travels diagonally front he bottom right of the frame up towards the top left corner. A larger branch comes from the bottom left diagonally to the top centre, with a fork that goes to the top left. There are a number of smaller branches int he foreground, to the left and right, which end in large black buds. The golden sunshine is coming from the right and illuminating the bird and the branches in a warm light. The background is a mass of crossing branches, all lit up by the sunshine, against a clear blue sky

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SpikyHead - any bird with its head feathers raised, flared, or puffed up! Like this gorgeous Hummingbird, showing me his punky crown! 😊 📷 🪶

Alt theme: #BirdSplash Any bird making a splash💦

Happy Tuesday! 🕊️ 👋

A close-up, profile photograph of the head and upper body of a male Talamanca hummingbird, facing left as viewed. He has a long, thin, straight black beak, dark eye that is highlighted by a striking, bright white spot immediately behind it. His plumage appears velvety and dark, with shimmering iridescent green and turquoise feathers catching the light in a mosaic of metallic tones. The background is a soft, completely blurred blend of pale cream and muted green hues. His head crown feathers are raised giving him a #SpikyHeadBird look!

Hi #ArchForma gang! Your theme for Wk 3, starting on Monday Nov. 2nd, is #OTTColourTexture.

Photos showing an over-the-top deluge or juxtaposition of crazy, bold colours & textures of *man-made* things.

Some ideas listed below. As always, use both tags. Post as much as you want all week long. :)
#ArchForma Week 3 (Nov 2-8): #OTTColourTexture Any over-the-top excess & juxtapositions of wild, bold colour and texture of man-made things, buildings, or lines. Some ideas: • OTT colourful, textured interior decor or furnishings from royal palaces to churches, theatres, or pubs; • Rows of toys, bakery items, shoes, books; • Street art, murals, or museum art installations; • Holiday, Christmas, or regular shop window displays; • Fireworks in front of colourful boats, bridges, or buildings; Use both hashtags together when you post (#ArchForma #OTTColourTexture) & have fun!

🪶 Good Morning and Happy Thursday Everyone!

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is:

#Yellow; any bird with yellow plumage

Alt. is #Red; any bird with red plumage

- A tiny Goldcrest perched in the sunshine

#ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #ColorADay #YellowThu
A Goldcrest perched on a branch in the bright sunshine. The tiny bird is centre of frame and facing the camera, its yellow crown stripe is visible; bordered by black stripes at either side. It has a long, thin beak and dark eyes. Its face is whitish and head and upper parts are olive-green. Its chest and side are grey-green, turning to whitish underneath. Its legs and feet are a fleshy brown. The bird is perched on a branch running parallel along the bottom of the shot; which itself comes from another branch emerging from the bottom corner of the shots and running diagonally, behind the bird towards the top left hand corner. Three smaller branches (twigs) are jutting out of the left hand side. The sunshine is coming from the left and lighting up the bird and branches in bright yellow sunlight. The background is out of focus greens and yellows of the forest, lit up by sunlight.

Join us this Thursday, 29 October, for #PalacesAndGardens spooky theme of #Haunted (suggested by @maskflowerprince.bsky.social
- thank you!)

Dark corridors, ghostly shapes, legends of long gone occupants, tombs, gargoyles and creepy garden sculptures 👻🫣🧙🏻😱🪦

Info in Sabine's poster below ⬇️
#ECK
Image is the poster for Thursday's #PalacesAndGardens theme of #Haunted. The background is a weathered stone relief of a creepy, crouched figure side on, like he is peeping out at the corner of a building. The text reads; #PalacesandGardens Thursday, 29 October 2026 Theme: #Haunted With Halloween creeping closer, @maskflowerprince lures us into the eerie side of #PalacesandGardens. Haunted halls, restless spirits and things that go bump in the night... But beware! Not everything lurking in the shadows is quite what it seems. • Things That Go Bump in the Night ! Creaking doors, dark corridors or mysterious windows. Capture the architecture and eerie atmospheres sending shivers down your spine! • Gardens of the Dead Ancient churchyards and moss-covered tombs. Where nature meets memory, the past can feel remarkably close. • Bewitched and Bewildered Witches, gargoyles, or mythical beasts hiding in sculptures or garden ornaments. Who-or what-is watching you? Everyone is welcome. #ECK

Sorry for the late challenge - life got in the way.
Every image has surfaces--decide what to do with them or treat the whole image as a surface. As always, you make the call. Tips in the reply.

tinyurl.com/5ymmwstb
Every image has a surface. Decide what yours is, then work on it. The subject is not the brief. The skin is. Texture is one answer. It is not the only one. Start by looking Before you edit, find the surfaces in the image. Ask what each one is made of, how it catches light, and whether it’s rough or smooth, matte or reflective, new or worn. You can work one surface, several, or all of them. Three ways in (pick one, mix them, or ignore them) 1. Work the surface Make it something you can feel. Push grain, grit, relief, materiality. Build texture where the image already has it Try monochrome so texture carries the image instead of color Try film grain or a gritty print look 2. Smooth the surface Polish, soften, quiet it. What’s left when the roughness goes? Reduce clarity and local contrast, or blur selectively Calm busy areas and let a smooth one lead Aim for a flat, graphic, almost painted field 3. Go beneath it Take the surface away, or look through it. What’s underneath? Strip the color and let structure show Pull back the skin: peel, fade, or reveal Try layering or blending to suggest what lies below Or treat the image as an object Print, paper, emulsion, glass. Make it look like a surface in its own right.
