Ascidian sea squirts in early development appear in my plankton samples sometimes. They’re always so pretty!

This is what a baby sea squirt looks like! An ascidian larva - looks like a tadpole! Sometimes they are, indeed, referred to as ‘tadpole larvae’. Polarised light.

Day 13 of #25DaysofCrustmas brings us a teeny weeny shrimp that lives in an Ascidian. This I believe is Periclimenaeus storchi that I found in Anilao Philippines. This was a single shot as it quickly disappeared into the back of its home.

An Ascidian colony, possibly Botrylloides violaceus.
Although native to this side of the Atlantic they are considered invasive in American waters.
County Clare, Ireland.
