#asexuality
Also criminalising asexuality is obviously enforceable! Any woman who doesn't want to get married or have sex with a man can be accused of practicing asexuality

ICYMI: The nation of Niger has become the first nation in the world to criminalise asexuality as part of a wider crackdown on the LGBTQIA+ community

Why Niger explicitly criminalising asexuality is significant to everyone, regardless of identity
To understand Nigers asexuality criminalisation, we should see this law as part of a bigger – and growing – global trend among conservatives about 'traditional families'

even the thing they link to with the text “to criminalize asexuality” says nothing about asexuality, and is specifically about homosexuality?

How does one criminalize asexuality? I can't work this one out.

Celibacy and asexuality are very different things.

had a dream last night that a committee was trying to come up with an SI unit for asexuality

Asexuality just feels like such a weird thing to be mad at. Kind of gives the game away.

Also, I don't know if this is the asexuality talking, but I don't seem to get crushes on fictional characters?

The closest I can recall is going "this character's romantic dynamic with this other character is cute"

Fyi they cannot criminalize asexuality but they can criminalize you declaring youre an asexual

Queerphobic laws are meant to instill fear and doubt

Are there ways to be discriminatory against asexuality? Yes. Is there a law in Niger that discriminates against asexuals? Also yes.

Is there any indication (... as in even using the same vocabulary) that Niger legislators see the connection? No

This. Anti-asexuality laws are terrifying and not funny at all. (Saw some jokes and also some clueless people and it made me cranky.)
I know people don’t mean harm, but asking how they’ll enforce it is obtuse. Corrective rape. That’s how they enforce it.

The camp I was almost sent to did corrective rape and corrective sexual assault. Some people didn’t get lucky like I did to have a father who stopped me from being sent there

Little rant about asexuality, aromantism, and self perception.

I always struggled with how I looked, and couldn’t share much pictures of me before. I’m trying to do it more. I wondered why I was so focused on my appearance sometimes, considering that I’m not "supposed" to worry about it.

I think this is just for state sanctioned rape and control. A husband accuses a spouse of asexuality and then he has control of her.

listened to Ace by Angela Chen and it was SO interesting and also anytime I read something about asexuality I'm like "I need to be doing more ace activism it's important"

Okay, now that I‘ve had a night to calm down, I want to try to explain calmly why this post is in of itself gross.
Asexuality is one of the only sexualities everyone seems to think is okay to hate on and say isn’t oppressed. I will be linking statistics below, but the idea that asexuality isn’t
I don't want to be a cunt but the way this is being reporting is kind of... gross?

Clicking the link leads to a report about homosexuality being criminalized for the first time in Niger's history. Asexuality is only mentioned insofar as the acronym "LGBTQIA+" is used a few times.

Criminalizing asexuality??!
October 12, 2026 at 4:41 AM
Conversion therapy in the west also includes asexuality.

This isn’t a first nor will it be a last, so this isn’t shocking.

High control religious people may be prudes, but they also want you to feel ashamed for your sexual attraction. If you lack one, then they view you as incomplete or inhuman

Niger’s crackdown on asexual “practices” is not isolated to the West African nation - it’s part of a greater trend of anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric worldwide

while my asexuality tastes have shifted over the years, it's still very much a core part of my attraction to stuffs U^ェ^U💜
October 11, 2026 at 7:32 PM
Yeha I don't get why people think this is a specifically anti asexuality law AND maybe these borderline rape "jokes" should be shelved. And why would anyone take third world queers seriously, be so serious. We don't matter to anyone, let alone to first world crackers

How I explain asexuality: You're all cute, so none of you really stand out

How I explain panromantic: Your vibe is really good, so everything you do has me looking dreamily at you

Me being neurodivergent and him Asexual, both are very diverse spectrum(s) here is a little 411 on asexuality that may help explain things easier.
