By day I'm a producer in the games industry, happily making little spreadsheets and Gantt charts, and by night I improvise nonsense or wander around stage with a microphone.
The new Jasper Fforde book is coming out the same day as the new Control game and this is cruel.

Rolling around on the floor whining because my current phone is dying and that means I have to actually buy a new one.

Me: Oh, The Blame Game is being cancelled.
My wife, distraught: How am I meant to know if AI is protestant or catholic without Tim McGarry telling me?

GW’s success is also fascinating because it’s both a high street business and a multinational one, though not in the way you’d expect, because it’s vertically integrated with local manufacturing. The lead belt around Nottingham is arguably the only modern British manufacturing success story.
This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

At a craft fair where someone is selling pillows that read "Autism Powered Fucking Machine" which I didn't realise was an option. I've just been using my autism to power more autism. I could've been doing so much power fucking.

Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

I don't want to suggest anything about Nish Kumar's audience but I am not the only one here with rainbow hair.

Sat in a theatre café next to two older queer men who are currently discussing Oscar Wilde like god got lazy with the environmental storytelling.

JRR Tolkien: You paint that picture of the key scene from the Two Towers where Frodo and Sam fight Gollum?
Donato Giancola: Sure did, Ron, real fuckin' sexy just like you asked.
JRRT: What.

I had this with one of my favourite artists, Christian Schloe, whose work is weird and surreal and when I googled him last year all the results were for AI generators in his style. Actually googled him again yesterday wanting to buy a print and he seems to completely have taken down his web presence
If you think an artist's style looks like AI but you can scroll back through their portfolio and see them doing the same work before 2020, congrats, you're not looking at an AI grifter. You're looking at one of the original victims whose entire style AI stole.

Love comparing the difference in comedy stand up show titles. New acts at the Fringe called their shows 'Mr Butterscotch Erupted In My Mouth & Other Toffee Incidents' meanwhile legacy guys going on UK tours call theirs stuff like 'It's Me Again' and 'More Stand Up From Me'

Are you a cis man feeling disgusted at the news?

Good. Use that. Talk to your fellow men about what you're going to do to make our industry and our world safer. And then actually do it. You may lose friends or opportunities, but a better and safer industry and world starts with you.

I exist in the circles of games and comedy, people you admire turning out to be awful is not new to me. Mourn what they meant to you, don't blame yourself for not knowing, but honour their victims and move forward making things safer where you can.

Now that we're making box skirts instead of circle skirts, I can work on skirt designs that would have been really difficult to make work on a circle, like this forest glade design!

@watsoncomedian.bsky.social has just posted a clip of his latest special with a piano on stage.

That was my piano and it's the closest I'm probably likely to come to performing at the City Varieties so I'll take it.

I watched It's A Wonderful Life for the first time last year and I don't think I'll watch it again any time soon because I will start throwing knives every time Mr Potter is on screen, but I think a lot about the "Is he sick?" "No, worse. He's discouraged." exchange.

We've had the ability to watch, say, Counterstrike marathons, Street Fighter tournaments, or chess matches between computers since the 90s. Spectacles which, by their very definition, would be at a "higher standard" than human play. And nobody wants it. It's entirely meaningless. It has no appeal.

Every time a discourse kicks off over whether AI music, literature or art will be "as good as" the real thing, I'm always amazed more people don't cite that **there already are** creative pursuits where human-free spectacles have been available for decades, and nobody has ever wanted to watch them.

XS Malarkey is lovely. Amy Gledhill is lovely. My friends are lovely. Sometimes comedy is Good.

Do you think the acts who put "Not for the easily offended!" on their posters realise they're providing a trigger warning.

Sometimes it is good to see a sold out show at your favourite venue by someone doing material that wouldn't be out of place at an edgy boi open mic night to make you feel better about your own stuff.

Really happy to see this, as someone who cannot do shooty games and would not have been able to get through the original without the lock on button.
CONTROL Resonant has no traditional difficulty levels.

Instead, there's the Assist Mode. Use it to make the game easier (or harder) and only adjust certain mechanics, or take advantage some of the presets provided.

You can turn the Assist Mode on/off whenever you like!
