Can I leave them in places to trap people in them, as Atrus intended?

You get to learn why Atrus is the way he is (mostly Ghen’s fault), but you also get to learn why Ghen is the way he is (mostly Ti’ana’s fault), and why Ti’ana is the way she is (also mostly Ghen’s fault).
Atrus and Catherine’s relationship is fleshed out too, which is nice.

I will say, Adam Conover LOOKS like he's related to Atrus to some degree.

Very cool. :)
I've noticed some thematic and character parallels with Myst.
Do you see it?
As an island-dwelling scholar with magical books, Atrus is very much Prospero, and his sons Sirrus and Achenar are like Caliban, enticing you with riches to ensure their freedom and usurp Atrus.

The books tell the stories of Atrus before Myst, his grandmother Anna’s life among the D’ni, and Atrus & Catherine rebuilding D’ni society after the events of Riven.
@gilespink.bsky.social, writing under the supervision of @realrandem.bsky.social & Cyan, has updated 30% of the Book of D'ni as well!

I love Rand. Because I played Myst and Riven so much as a kid, I thought he was a famous actor. He (and Atrus) have such a kind energy ✨️

Hello again, my friend! It is short notice but I need you to help me move from my third floor apartment to a fourth floor apartment. The hours will be long and the rewards scant, and also I pulled my balls stretching this morning so I need you to mostly do it.

Caranraw was my LotRO character and I recycled the name for FFXIV without knowing anything about Roe lore.
Ian Pertwee first came up in Myst Online because a word filter wouldn't let me be Ian Atrus anymore, and so I borrowed the 3rd Doctor's surname.
Hadden is straight out from Contact.

These books are SO cool :3
Book of Atrus is a sci-fantasy classic, Book of Ti'ana has some phenomenal twists, I've yet to read Book of D'ni but this rewrite intrigues me. . .
Also they EXPLODED past their goal in 10 minutes and are still climbin', we love to see indie studios make stuff happen 🙂↕️

I guess now we need an edit of Rand/Atrus into the "writing fire" meme.

One of those projects is the Myst book trilogy re-release, which already looks to be very successful. These novels are genuinely great, IMHO. I have re-read The Book of Atrus multiple times over the weekend.
I already have both soft and hardcover copies of the books, but I'll probably back anyway.

Can't wait to read them all again and be like "None of these aged well except the book that I refused to read because Atrus wasn't in it."

Can't wait to read them all again and be like "None of these aged well except the book that I refused to read because Atrus wasn't in it."
These will be re-reads, so it's not thaaaat pressing.
First book is necessary reading for Riven. Quality is ...fine?
Second book didn't focus on Atrus, so young me could not have cared less.
Third book felt like a Star Trek episode. They all go to the forced perfection planet this episode!

I've read those books. It was difficult to understand some of what was described in them. Some illustrations (maps, diagrams, etc.) would've been nice.
Even so, it's #Myst, so I'm promoting it.
