Nine American Avocet birds aligned in a row, eating in mudflats of Delaware Bay. The bright setting sun turned the mud a big pink, the soft rippling water in the background a shimmering blue, and the normally black and white Avocets into Black and golden brown birds.

Went to Essex WT’s Fingringhoe today. Tide pretty high. About 200 Avocet remarkable, Dunlin and Grey Plovers, large navy of Shelduck. Kingfisher on pond by visitor centre. Good coffee. #essexbirding

American avocet adopting a most improbable looking pose on one blue leg. I don't see how it can balance like that. It looks like 3/4 of its weight is off to the left.

I upgraded to one of them. I even tried portability with a 12v motorcycle battery. I gave up when I realised that there was a high risk of van aerial disease.
I sold up in 1984/5 for a Avocet 20 cycle computer.

6 Spoonbills, Spotted Redshank, Green Sandpiper, 15 Greenshank, 12 Bar-tailed Godwits, 51 Avocet with several Pintail and Wigeon were the highlight amongst the usual waders on #BowlingGreenMarsh and #ViewPlatform this am.
