So AWS has just silently updated their old blog post to reflect that they're deprecating / googling IoT Analytics. How... transparent, of them.

This has apparently been quite the summer for sunsetting AWS services.

Tracking fleets in real time with AWS IoT Core and Amazon Location Service
Connecting dedicated GPS hardware to AWS IoT Core and visualizing positions with Amazon Location Service gives fleet operators a live view of every vehicle. This post covers the concepts, architecture, and cost trade-offs of a lightweight, serverless approach to GPS-focused fleet tracking for small to medium-sized fleets.

can't get over the fact that the AWS outages have led to a bunch of 'always online' unnecessary IOT appliances becoming unusable, especially the fucking smart beds

I'm Gen X, I'm an early adopter and gadget guy, but I think I'm somehow devolving into being a Boomer because for the life of me I do NOT understand the urge for IoT everything or smart homes, and stories like this just keep justifying my position:

The AWS Outage Bricked People’s $2,700 Smartbeds
When Amazon Web Services went offline, people lost control of their cloud-connected smart beds, getting stuck in reclined positions or roasting with the heat turned all the way up.

Playing with Lorawan in preparation for a customer event next week. Gateway built from a Raspberry Pi connected to AWS IoT Core and a temp/humidity sensor and two tracking devices round out the demo kit. Everything works as planned and the trackers do surprisingly well even in my basement lab.
