I am deeply concerned that, after this election, Democrats might pass a bill that helps big tech build data centers & procure energy, and that at best lowers monthly electricity bills on average by $5 in 2040.

The fragile political math underlying BAAJA precludes adequate changes while any changes may nonetheless confer a fig leaf of cover for wobbly electeds (+some of the bigger, access-oriented NGOs subject to donor & political cross pressures) to support what will still prove a terrible deal.

Residential electricity bill savings estimates from think-tank BAAJA studies are between 3 and 14 cups of coffee per household per year. These estimates assume BAAJA enables no new electricity demand. Say what you will about BAAJA, but it's really not an affordability bill.
The wild thing is that these bill savings estimates all use a baseline where demand is the same with and without BAAJA. Same demand, more supply, lower price. In reality, though, BAAJA would enable new demand from data centers etc. More demand, more supply, no reason to believe prices go down.
