The ghost of Robert Maxwell (father of Ghislaine) continues to haunt.

Is the staggeringly profitable business of scientific publishing bad for science?
The long read: It is an industry like no other, with profit margins to rival Google – and it was created by one of Britain’s most notorious tycoons: Robert Maxwell

Legislation distinguishing e-motos from e-bikes is sorely needed in MN, where legislation modeled on this CA law has already been introduced to the legislature but not passed. It takes the appropriate approach of regulating the mfrs and sellers not policing riders.

Gavin Newsom signs bill distinguishing e-bikes and e-motos in California
Senate Bill 1167 aimed to mostly clarify what is not an e-bike under California law and what can be marketed as one in the state.

The time is nigh for an amendment to the City Charter placing a cap on the number of downtown properties any one individual or entity can purchase. Else we are likely to end up with Florida Crockeral. And that’s guaranteed to be worse than North Oaks Crockeral.
With the acquisition of 375 Jackson St. and its adjoining property, 135 5th St. E., Florida-based investor Jamie Rand now owns four commercial office buildings in downtown St. Paul, all of them along 5th Street, spanning nearly three contiguous city blocks. www.twincities.com/2026/09/10/i...

It’s true (and for heat pump heating as well). But don’t expect Xcel to cooperate with your request quickly or willingly!

Do you have Xcel?
Do you also use baseboard heating or resistive heating?
you can get your $/kWh reduced by HALF all winter.
no really. you just have to call them

I truly appreciate the work @ag.state.mn.us office is doing on my behalf. I filed a complaint with them after trying for 5 mos to get Xcel energy to apply the appropriate electric-heating rate to my residential account. This is their *third* letter demanding a response to both themselves and me.

There once was extensive community engagement about it. Even garnering threatening letter from @mccollum.house.gov !

It's as good a time as any to remind folks that more than 13 yrs ago @mndot.mn.gov had nearly complete plans to redo Snelling Ave between Hewitt and Energy Park Drive. Don't believe me? Here are the receipts!

Minnesota. Tell everyone to hand deliver ballots or vote in person. Trump is doing his level best to cheat for the GOP ghouls.
Trumps MOFO puppets pulled it off, the PO will only deliver mail ballots only in states that shared voter data with the federal agency.
Trump doesn't want us to vote. In '16 he said: "If voting was easy and convenient the GOP would never win another election".

Don’t often eat breakfast but today’s brunch is an egg fried over easy in homemade chili, garlic, sesame oil, on a toasted Asiago bagel with Fontina cheese. I’m delighted with how this turned out. 🤤

I don’t have a rec on a plumber, but if you want to save a little money on a new toilet, I still have this perfectly functional one-pièce you can *have*. Only replaced because it wouldn’t fit the bidet I wanted to install.

In the past week or so I’ve seen two MSP folks here post about having to acquire new toilets. Too late for them but if other locals have similar needs I’ve got this perfectly functional Eljer (elongated bowl) one-piece I’d rather not end up in a landfill. Free.
