Happy World Bee Day! I took this photo on part of the site of last year's forest fire along the Ashnola River. The alumroot is blooming and this little Andrena boy is a sign of hope and resilience for our native BC bees!

This gorgeous creature is the Vancouver Island bumblebee.

Seventeen-plus genera of native bees now inhabit my small urban lot, up from basically zero a few years ago. All I’ve done is put plants in the ground.
