I posted earlier about my native annuals from last summer. This is a Grindelia I found that I am planting next year, along with Centaurea americana (Basketflower) and the wild species of annual sunflowers. Grindelia have "special value for native bees" (Xerces Society). #nativeplants 🌱

The petals of spent flowers curl inward. I believe this is Grindelia papposa (Saw-leaf Daisy) and not Curly-cup gumweed because the spiky flower bracts are not curled. Picture of a whole Grindelia plant. It is a multi-stemmed plant with yellow flowers at the ends of the stems, about 3 feet tall. I found these plants growing next to a gravel dump and took a few seeds.

Frost on the cosmos. They've been a great pollinator plant in my garden for years, but I want to replace them with fall-blooming natives. I'm planting Verbesina virginica (frostweed), Vernonia baldwinii (ironweed), Conoclinium coelestinum (blue mistflower), and Grindelia. Any other suggestions? 🌱
