Some leafcutter bee activity on Eastern Redbud saplings. Looks like someone used a hole punch! They roll up pieces of leaves to line their nests. Nests are built in cavities found in rotten wood, hollow stems of plants, or holes in solid wood. Fascinating little pollinators! #leafcutterbees

I have friends who want to see perfect plants. I'm overjoyed when I see this type of "damage". This plant is Physostegia virginiana (obedient plant) and the neat cutouts are made by #bees in the genus Megachile (leafcutter bees).
