#masonbees
I took something off the outside wall, and uncovered some sleeping mason bees. I quickly put the item back up to let them sleep.

Harvesting Mason bee cocoons this fall? Dave soaked three different types of paper inserts in water: our inserts unrolled after 10 - 15 minutes, a paper drinking straw needed scissors, and a regular straw was still rigid after 30 minutes. Choose inserts made to come apart.

Starting the annual #masonbees harvest.

You take the white paper tube out of the protective cardboard tubes and then you take the cocoons out of the paper tubes. Store all the cocoons in a humid environment in the fridge all winter. Only a billion to go now. #masonbees

Mason bees sealed up,
Riding out the cold winter,
Sleeping in their house.

I'm near Seattle, Washington, USA. It is time to start harvesting my #masonbees. I have to pull all the tubes and remove all the cocoons, get rid of predators, wash, and store for the winter.

If you don't harvest your Mason bee cocoons in fall? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

If you like bugs spinning cocoons in holes, stand by. I'll start harvesting #masonbees next month.

The bees in there are not mine. They are random neighborhood bees. Mine are in their cocoons doing their transformation to adult bees. #masonbees #Garden_Walk

Another two solitary bees have emerged from the emergence tray. Not checked the big emergence box 😀 🐝🐝🐝🐝

Watching many species of #MasonBees feasting on my hedgerow's #AmericanBoxwood flowers and Glory of the Snow (Chionodoxa). It's the first day it has hit 60 again after a couple of seasonably cold weeks.

A new wooden house,
A tiny builder works hard,
A life so similar,
To all who seek a safe home,
For children yet to be born.

Spring is near despite it still being a deep freeze here in Zone 6. My mason bees were delivered this weekend! #garden2025 #masonbees

There are still a couple of #masonbees around, but their life cycle is ending and I have no more nesting material. All filled up. Something is creatively eating my overflow tubes tho.

My #masonbees have filled almost all of the nesting tubes. Next year's pollination is all but assured.

Almost full. #masonbees

Not my sweet little #masonbees. They have never stung me. They might want to crawl up my nose a bit.

The last batch of cocoons are hatching and they are going to have to look further out for nesting opportunities. #masonbees

@gardenshour.bsky.social here in Washington state, USA, your #gardenshour is while I'm at work, but here are some #masonbees from my garden.

So many #masonbees. First filled tube today. I saw 5 so far. There are still more bees coming out of hibernation. The females are so desperate for nesting holes that I was a little afraid for my ears and nostrils.

I had such a "good" year last year for #masonbees that now have > a thousand extra cocoons. No point in keeping them in hibernation so outside they go. They can survive fine in the wild. There is not going to be an unpollinated flower for miles.

So many #masonbees out today I was covering my nostrils so they wouldn't look like a good place to lay eggs.
