One could be embarassed by how many decades it took show Duesberg the door or instead just be happy that, eventually, it happened.
More than a few folks who didn't lose tenure too but, boy howdy, were those benchwork privileges revoked by their peers. Died doing lit review only.

After my retirement at the end of last June, I am very honored to have this fellowship opportunity in Christchurch. I will mostly be teaching, lecturing, and hopefully doing a bit of benchwork. But I hope to use this time to come up with a plan of what I need to do and be next.

Eight Years on from Benchwork in a Day

I am deeply indebted to all three for their generosity in their time, skills and muscle power to make it happen.

Personally: that judge got FIRED, no benchwork again. Turner, 1st got thrown off campus so no more swimming then got BANNED from being able to become an olympian 🫢 Can't find a job anywhere (still difficult even now it says w/name change), social pariah, etc.
WE made sure THEY BOTH paid!😉👍

my coworker/fellow PhD candidate (who ai-generated the manuscript) is doing benchwork all day every day and I have to remind myself that she’s six years into the work in this lab and I’m only three and I’m still getting cell lines made and she already has a fuck ton of cell lines

Idk I feel like I’m actually a good resource for him to vent to when he’s not like, off-planet mad, so maybe I’ll see how things are tomorrow and disappear if needed
I have almost no benchwork right now because I’m waiting on some of my cells and figuring out what to do with the others

I really love being a scientist and doing benchwork.
To me, it's an artisan craft - working with your hands, techniques honed with years of practice and intuition, training apprentices, creating new and interesting things.
I hope that that type of science will endure

If you want to hire me to help you build a model railroad, diorama, or help you with scenery, NOW is the time. Reach out this week via email and we can begin as soon as you're ready!
I can do it all, from benchwork to backdrops to tracklaying, wiring/DCC, and of course my highly detailed scenery.

For me, training = supervision + mentoring. Supervision is showing students how to do the work (assays, benchwork, analysis). Good supervision means a student acquires an expert grasp of the project’s theoretical & practical elements. But mentoring is different. /2
