#hiking the final two summits (for me) of Tiger Mountain, near Issaquah, WA. South Summit and Middle Summit. The clear cut at Middle Summit was sad. The number of blowdowns from the November wind storm is simply amazing.

Surveyed #windstorm damage in #HopeBC & #Coquihalla Canyon from 11th March. Extensive tree blowdowns seem to support the recorded 139km/h (86mph) gust at #YHE, tho asking ECCC. Either way, this was a significant wind event locals won’t soon forget.

On the surface, many national parks and even Forest Service campgrounds appear to be managing business as usual.

But stories of struggle flow unceasingly from our public lands: unattended fires, timber blowdowns, trail crews fired.

McDowell or Yancey County? Also the “green pants” teams have been instrumental at getting trails & roads cleared of the massive blowdowns left from the hurricane. If it’s dry this summer & fall western North Carolina will be in trouble.

Reviving an old trail. I think there's potential for some fun adders also. We'll see. Eight blowdowns before the batteries died. #trailbuilding #mtb

Especially since most of the leaks are unfixable (unmapped abandoned wells) or required emissions to keep the whole fracking operation from blowing up (flare stack venting, compressor station blowdowns).

To be fair, the tall ass forests here aren't built to withstand extreme wind. 50mph or higher causes mass blowdowns and cripples our power grid.

in retrospect i had an saw (just a shitty bowsaw) in the backseat for blowdowns that maybe would've been menacing... "hehehe don't mind the SAW". i replayed this scenario in my head for a good 20 minutes while driving, as one does
