As a BOFQ (bitter old fandom queen) a lot of this has it's root in historical legal attacks of fan spaces by creators, mockery, derision, and taking fanwork out of its for-fans context and presenting it to those it was never intended for in order to embarrass or shame. We Olds have a lot of ptsd.
