This is all an extension of the work-from-home paranoia that lead to bossware.

Bad managers need to feel useful, and they do that by standing over workers' shoulders and watching their every move rather than hiring people they can trust and supporting them to do the work.

Recent data from HR tech and bossware platforms that monitor workers is painting a picture of AI use in workplaces: it’s adding more work and stressing people out. 🧵

So much for being liberated from drudgery and 4 day workweeks. It’s almost like workers need collective power over workplace tech.
“AI is creating a new type of work that may be sucking up much of the time the technology itself is saving.

Call it a ‘verification tax,’ ‘botsitting’ or ‘rework’—it’s the often arduous task of checking that AI output is accurate, safe and usable”

It is kinda fucked up that there's bossware software out there literally called "staffcop" and we are not getting mad enough about that or the bossware in general.

Not long ago, Pa was surprised to find AI "bossware" scoring the “sentiment” of every call she takes. Starting Jan. 1, California bans employers from using AI to read workers’ emotions.

Long Covid disabled millions of workers. Then came Trump 2.0.
Companies have become “very comfortable undermining” ADA labor protections, experts say.

The rules of vibe-ice fishing are simple. You describe what you want, the AI does it wrong, and you post about it. “My grandmother would have loved this,” says Kip Moonbeam, Head of Vibes (Interim) at BossWare, whose grandmother has asked to be left out of it. The news comes amid growing concern…

Bossware includes a range of tools from keystroke tracking and screen monitoring software to biometric collection and facial recognition technology. Additionally, artificial intelligence is increasingly being used workplace surveillance tools to expand the scope of data being collected and analyzed.
