To celebrate finishing the 4th print edition of Broomistega & Thrinaxodon, I would like to share the complete comic with you. It's about two very different Triassic animals at the end of the world 1/7 #paleoart #sciart #furryart

What if we were both early Triassic vertebrates and we were spending our last moments alive together before being entombed for 250 million years.

A series of sketches of an anthropormorphic Thrinaxodon and Broomistega. The Thrinaxodon is wearing a white A-shirt and shorts, while the Broomistega is wearing a slim black dress. The sketches are: - A standalone image of the two holding hands. - The two hugging while looking at each other lovingly. - The Broomistega leaning up against the back of the Thrinaxodon, who is looking back lovingly. Their poses evoke the positions of their fossil remains. - The two of them cuddling of a couch, eyes closed in a light doze.

Lets talk about the fossil that chokes me up every goddamn time.

My sweet precious babies of The Triassic cuddle.

Its a fossil of a Thrinaxodon (a cynodont) and a Broomistega (a small salamander like amphibian).

The Broomistega was found belly up on top of the Thrinaxodon.

They think this because Broomistega was injured, it had broken ribs that showed signs of healing.

And while it did have what appears to be bite marks on it, they don’t match the teeth of Thrinaxodon.

Shortly after a flash flood caused the den to fill with sediment, preserving the eternal cuddle.
A picture of a drawing of a Thrinaxodon fossil with text that says “Nestled together were the remains of a Thrinaxodon, a transitional species between reptiles and the first mammals…” and a drawing of a Broomistega that says “and an amphibian known as Broomistega. The most complete skeleton of its kind ever found.” A photo of the Triassic cuddle that show the Broomistega and Thrinaxodon together.

Now paleontologists believe these two ending up in the same den together in an accidental burial is highly unlikely.

They think one of two things probably happened.

1) Broomistega entered willingly.

2) Thrinaxodon dragged it in.

Many believe it was most likely number 1.
