One of our favourite Iron Age hillforts in Dorset is the small but perfectly formed 2ha bivallate enclosure of Rawlsbury

It encircles a chalk spur on Bulbarrow Hill overlooking the Blackmore Vale with a parish boundarry subdividing the interior

It's #HillfortsWednesday - Huzzah!

Here's the small but rather gorgeous 2 hectare bivallate Iron Age enclosure of Rawlsbury Camp on Bulbarrow Hill in #Dorset

We completely, totally and utterly love this perfect prehistoric place 😍

3d. Here's where the line from the Farley Mount crop circle passes in front of Bulbarrow Radio Transmitter. The RAF installed the first transmitter here during World War 2. The crop circle design 'interference pattern' may relate to this.

6. If we keep following the line from the Preston Candover crop circle to Cerne Abbas it crosses Rawlsbury Camp Iron Age Hill Fort near Bulbarrow. This is our second sacred site marker, linking the crop circle to Cerne Abbas Giant...

8. However, if i plot a line between the Crab Wood 'Alien Face & Message' crop circle back to Cerne Abbas, the line passes Pimperne Barrow and Bulbarrow Radio Transmitter.

1/2 We were back over on the slopes of Bulbarrow Hill today where we say this very early fledged Song Thrush on 30th March.
The area is completely awash with Song Thrushes singing at the moment.
Every tree seems to have Songtoe growing in it...

A very welcome sight on Bulbarrow Hill, N Dorset (March 30th)
A fledgling Song Thrush, looking very perky & Bristol fashion.
A mid-February start for nest-building for it's parents?
Evidence of the need to keep the period of hedge-trimming under close review.

I was over at this church on the edge of Bulbarrow yesterday - it's very reliable for Spotted Flycatchers. Merlin picked them up straight away but they didn't show themselves. I'll go back when they are feeding their young & are more visible.
Every church roof seems to have a nest of bees this year!
