#busconnects
The BusConnects team have put this nice video of the Liffey Valley route on YouTube…

Check out the 13km of mostly separated bike lanes they’ve planned 🥳🚲 (and the acres of space retained for cars 🤨)

For showing to any BusConnects-sceptical friends! 😂

Government have spent over a billion euro on fuel subsidies this year… yet have no room in the budget for new BusConnects phases, Luas expansions or Dart+ projects

Opposition parties need to get their priorities straight
Opposition parties have urged the Government to postpone plans to return fuel excise duty costs to their full price due to ongoing concerns over the cost-of living crisis

Yep, Busconnects has been abandoned halfway through.

Meanwhile multiple phases of BusConnects, all four Luas extensions and various Dart+ projects go unfunded 🙄

Always money for cars and roads… never any for solutions to Irelands congestion problems
The Coalition leaders have tonight decided to extend the current excise reductions on petrol and diesel until 1 September 2026 in a package totalling €270 million.
After this date the previous rates will be gradually restored over four dates from Sept to end of year.

There's a fella there saying one of the reasons lads in tractors are blocking the quays is concern over the lack of delivery of BusConnects.
Looking at the threads about the protests on r/ireland, very funny how many people are shocked to discover that those protesting are (a) asset/cash rich and (b) politically right wing.

I've spent the day in The High Court listening to Lissan Coal Company v An Bord Pleanála. This is a judicial review of ABP's decision to approve the BusConnects Blanchardstown to City Centre scheme.

This is kind of how the traffic light type of bus gates as part of BusConnects will work.
New transit priority signals, approved by Council in May, already in action — one of 10 locations this year, allowing buses to jump the queue & save time for riders #TheHumbleBus

We can't delay every road safety measure while we wait for a BusConnects project that has no schedule. The NTA needs to release a timetable for BusConnects.

Last time getting a Wetherspoon breakfast on the way to the airport while changing buses on Camden Street. BusConnects giveth and BusConnects taketh away.

The rollout of new bus services has totally collapsed with this new government - and the NTA confirmed this today at the Oireachtas Transport Committee.

This will have a knock-on impact for all phases of BusConnects and the Connecting Ireland rural bus programme.

The March progress report from BusConnects in Dublin shows some fairly amazing results.... the 48% increase in passenger boardings on the redesigned bus network is remarkable... wait till we start to see the infrastructure too

The government has paused expansion of public transport. BusConnects in Dublin, Cork etc. along with new LocalLink routes for rural areas are all now at risk. Happy New Year from FF, FG & Lowry!

The "do-nothing" Government strikes again - with a simple amendment to the Dublin Transport Authority Bill, which would allow the NTA to deliver BusConnects in our regional cities, taking months to progress.

We don't know about all this politics stuff but outgoing Government 💚 got a LOT of good stuff done-

🚲 National Cycle Network planned, Cycle Manual
🚂 MetroLink planning application progressing
🚌 €2.00 90 minute fares 🚋
🚦 BusConnects routes permitted...
+ Lots more...

Will new Govt be as good...?

It's taken 7 years, but BusConnects is finally starting construction. It's not perfect, but dedicated lanes will make buses faster and cycling safer.

This is crazy on so many levels. Increasing the cost of public transport, while spending a billion euro on excise cuts for motorists, will only encourage more people to drive.

Meanwhile, there's no money available for public transport projects like Dart+, BusConnects or rural town bus services.

Recently published plans show that the NTA are completely watering down safety measures & bus priority on the Liffey Valley #BusConnects scheme

It completely undermines the planning process and the NTA must revert back to the approved plans

It's not just that helmets and hi-vis won't by themselves make e-bike and e-scooter users safer: bumping this up to the top of the priority list also sucks up bandwidth from more important transport priorities like red light cameras, BusConnects rollout, demand management, etc
The Government plans to introduce regulations making it mandatory for users of e-bikes and e-scooters to wear helmets and high-visibility clothing.
