[7] De Morgan was a pacifist & appalled by War. This would have been an unpopular stance at the time. Venus & Cupid (1878), Phosphorus & Hesperus (1881) & By the Waters of Babylon (c1882-3). Her art was uniquely feminist within the PRB milieu.

Way down south: slavery far beyond the United States | Aeon Essays
Slavery in Latin America, on a huge scale, was different from that in the United States. Why don’t we know this history?

This seemingly run-of-the-mill c1882 window at St Margaret's Episcopal church, Aberdeen, is significant for one reason only. It's the earliest known glass design by Ninian Comper. It remembers his sister Maria, who had died in 1862 at the age of three. 1/2

With lack of infra comes bad attitude. I’m reminded of the The Chariot Race by Alexander von Wagner, c1882, in Manchester City Art Gallery. Rome has always had a driver problem.

'The Gardener.' (c1882) Although Georges Seurat is best known for his scenes of urban life, much of his work depicts rural labourers and landscapes. The bright colours of this picture reflect his growing interest in Impressionist techniques.
