Going through some old papers from my parents. This is a large cache of letters from before they were married. Finding some interesting timelines, like when my dad first kissed my mom (they had been friends since 10yo). And my mom once thought of being a stewardess. C1958

This image shows a kaleidoscopic, mirrored photographic distortion of a circus clown, created in the style of experimental portraits by photographer Weegee (Arthur Fellig) around 1958. The composition multiplies and warps the face of the clown into a symmetrical, hypnotic pattern. Weegee famously used specialized prism and kaleidoscope lenses during his later career to create caricature-like distortions of famous and iconic figures. Considered by some to have invented tabloid photojournalism, Weegee (a.k.a Arthur Fellig) is known for his unflinching images of gangs, crime scenes, and street life in New York City, as well as his snapshots of glamorous Hollywood stars. With a reputation for being the first at the scene of a crime, Fellig cultivated his own mythology, claiming he had psychic abilities to predict crimes, and adopted the name Weegee—linked phonetically to séance-cum-boardgame Ouija—to highlight his predictive abilities. In fact, Weegee would sleep fully clothed with a police radio by his side, and kept a camera, typewriter, and darkroom equipment in the trunk of his car, enabling him to produce images with unrivalled speed. In 1954, Jasper Johns began painting what would become one of his signature emblems: the American flag. As an iconic image--comparable to the targets, maps, and letters that he also has depicted--Johns realized that the flag was “seen and not looked at, not examined.” The execution and composition of Three Flags elicit close inspection by the viewer. The painting draws attention to the process of its making through Johns’s use of encaustic, a mixture of pigment suspended in warm wax that congeals as each stroke is applied; the resulting accumulation of discrete marks creates a sensuous, almost sculptural surface. The work’s structural arrangement adds to its complexity. The trio of flags—each successively diminished in scale by about twenty-five percent—projects outward, contradicting classical perspective, in which objects appear to recede from the viewer’s vantage point. By shifting the visual emphasis from the flag’s emblematic meaning to the geometric patterns and variegated texture of the picture surface and the canvas structure, Johns explores the boundary between abstraction and representation. As he remarked, this painting allowed him to “go beyond the limits of the flag, and to have different canvas space.”

Easter camping holiday c1958-59 is my guess. It was cold, it was great. Paraffin stove, paraffin lighting with a Tilley lamp. Great memories of Cae Gwernog above Dolgellau, Snowdonia. Oh and the open fire was allowed and no trace was left behind. Running water was from a stream. #HappyDays.

Charles Edward Anderson Berry - St. Louis, Missouri (October 18, 1926 - March 18, 2017).
Guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, showman, the Father of Rock Guitar. The man with the "moves 'n grooves".
Everyone who plays rock guitar (whether they know it or not) owes this man. He was the one who bridged the "race music" gap and morphed R&B and C&W into Rock & Roll. Signed and released on the ionic blues label Chess, he's written/released many of the most covered songs in history. "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (c1958), "School Days", ... are just a very few. He sacired a huge comeback in 1972 with the #8 "London Chuck Berry Sessions" that featured the #1 hit single "My Ding-A-Ling". Sadly, Chuck got himself into legal problems repeatedly throughout his career. Yet maintained his dignity (barely) and fanbase. Chuck died (age 90) at home in March 2017 of a heart attack.

Never posted the completed resto of this. C1958-59? Drager Fabius M / "Feldgroß" Nargoseapparat. A field use variant of the normal Fabius originally designed for the Bundeswehr / Civil Defense. Somehow this was exported to Peru. Sat in storage its whole life well preserved.

Yep! There's plenty more TBH. Franks Mum died during childbirth so was raised by his Grandma. At
20 he and few mates in c1958 decided to set off to drive around the world, from Blackburn! They only made it to Monaco when one lost a passport. But that story at interview got him into foreign office.
