Plenty of states that manage to regulate employment conditions *while also not having the same level of cabotage regulation* as US.
The Canadian-style approach has preference for domestic transport and requires licensing for employment conditions, for one

The Jones Act makes it ilegal for vessels not built and flagged in the US to perform "cabotage" - moving things from one US port to another.
It's a dumb law that drives up hassle/costs but didn't actually save the US maritime industry.
Waiving it will not meaningfully curb fuel prices.

The Jones Act makes it ilegal for vessels not built and flagged in the US to perform "cabotage" - moving things from one US port to another.
It's a dumb law that drives up hassle/costs but didn't actually save the US maritime industry.

Some of us warning here years ago of this too..Brexit (reducing EU cabotage & driver accompanied haulage) fucks UK even more while alleviating issue across EU. Will mean lower UK standards to meet demand of driver unaccompanied haulage to/from EU
