another benefit for specifically social housing is that in CBDs you typically get the largest possible surplus of market rents you can use to subsidize the affordable units
as someone who lives nextdoor to both supportive housing and public housing, i need people to understand that the best locations for both are going to be the central neighborhoods in a metropolitan area, where there is easy and reliable access to services and jobs.

Japan’s relatively low peak CBD densities cause this. Their cities are huge, so commutes to CBDs will naturally be long, but then the historical lack of ultra-high-density zoning causes even longer last-mile (or two) trips WITHIN CBDs, both by subway and on foot, making commutes unnecessarily long

I mean I'd rather we continue providing jobseeker to 18 and 19 year olds, invest in economic development projects in CBDs, and fix the healthcare system with that money.
