#chymistry
So set out, Sir J. Minnes and I in his coach together, talking all the way of chymistry, wherein he do know something, at least, seems so to me, that cannot correct him.

Day 13

Cleanliness: #Tiriande has soaps. Also, invocations and chymistry clean most things.

This is a perfect time for a reminder that Isaac Newton, the "father of modern physics," was super into alchemy. webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/newton/proje...

In 5 minutes I'll be presenting with part of the Chymistry of Isaac Newton team at #ACH2024 about our text encoding and bibliographic sleuthing! Hope to see you there! #BookHistory

Wilhelm Homberg, the chymist known for the rigorous experiments he conducted as director of the Académie des Sciences' chemical laboratory, is LHL's #ScientistOfTheDay.

Housing is at a Medieval level except where modified by things like the science of chymistry such as light sconces and chymic ovens. /1

Hello to all the new #earlymodern people following me! I'm a PhD student in InfoSci at Indiana U and a book historian of EM Navarre, Spain (booksellers/private libraries!). I also work on Newton's alchemical citations in the Chymistry project. I post #BookHistory, #DH, cooking, and quilting!

If anyone was wondering how the new job is going, I started crying when I found this chymistry book last week because I loved it so much

Nei Eichri is a healer who practices chymistry, the discipline of "dimensional chemistry." It's similar to alchemy. She knows how to brew distillates related to health and healing. /1

I brought my quilt upstairs to bury knots during the big weekly Chymistry of Isaac Newton meeting and then we ended up being very efficient and so I didn't have time! #DHmakes

Day 9

Reproductive laws are fairly lax on #Tiriande. Bodily autonomy is a widespread concept. And they have more options in their world than we do in ours via myrrhan working and chymistry.

This would be why we mark our quasi-facsimile title page transcriptions for the Chymistry project as being done from a color or a black and white digital copy!
Looking at the ancient EEBO microfilm of a 1518 Oxford-printed prognostication (unique; the only known broadside prognostication; the only one printed in England outside London in the 16thC). None of the printing in red is captured in the microfilm! @theulspeccoll.bsky.social Syn.1.51.1[1]

I was not a part of the project when it happened, but we (Chymistry) were part of it (see link)! Entire children have been born and graduated college in the span of Chymistry at this point. I was in third grade when it first emerged 😂

Newton Font: The Chymistry of Isaac Newton Project
Isaac Newton, like Albert Einstein, is a quintessential symbol of the human intellect and its ability to decode the secrets of nature. Newton wrote and transcribed about a million words on the subject of alchemy, of which only a tiny fraction has today been published. With the support of the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Chymistry of Isaac Newton hosted by Indiana University's Digital Library Program, is producing a scholarly online edition of Newton's alchemical manuscripts integrated with new research on Newton's chymistry.

Which has a different implication than, say, being a woo-peddling anti-vax biological sciences type would today. Newton was in some ways the first quantitative alchemist; he brought experimental chops to work shrouded in esoteric language.

He bridges the transition from chymistry to chemistry.

Day 4

In some ways, #Tiriande is more advanced than our world. This is because invocations and chymistry are actually forms of dimensional science rather than something "supernatural."

Just found out that two Newton people that I have never met in person for the entirety of the project are going to be at RSA! After 6 years, I will have finally collected all the Chymistry pokemon!!!

"Newton wrote over 1M words on alchemy or chymistry, outwriting his physics & mathematics combined. Spent decades performing secret laboratory experiments attempting to find the Philosopher's Stone, transmute base metals"
Today, his Mercer-supported Free Alchemy Institute would be based in Pasedena

My work with the Chymistry of Newton project, though brief, was very useful for knowing where to look for alchemical/astrological symbols, but astrology itself is new to me. The uses of very specific knowledge are legion!

Chymistry is different. To become a "mixer" you simply need to study. But that study requires grounding in other disciplines such as mathematics and naturalism. /3

One of the Newton citation encoders just got a full-time position (much rejoicing from the team!), and I asked her if she wanted to keep Newtoning on the side. She said yes, saying "I'm too emotionally invested at this point." 😂 This is exactly why the Chymistry project is like Hotel California #DH

And in Lovecraft's work, "magic" is actually alien science. It's a similar thing with Myrrhan Working and Chymistry. Both are forms of "applied dimensional science." Gods, demons, and spirits are better thought of as "extra-dimensional entities." Everything is natural rather than supernatural. /6
