One of the benefits (to Amazon) of not disclosing your data centers' actual water use is you can boldly claim that they use “less water than a few car washes do annually.” Fortunately these Ohio communities aren't buying it.
Inside Ohio’s Revolt Against Data Centers - Inside Climate News
A colorful crew of activists helped spur moratorium votes in 10 communities next month. Now, they’re aiming for a statewide ban.

I just hate the pressure of it and the comments about it bc it makes me want to stay unmarried just to spite everyone. Also, getting married to a man IN THIS CLIMATE?? We should be telling women to wait as long as possible to be tied to a man legally, look around....you know what I mean??

Food waste reduction is crucial but overlooked climate strategy. Last year, Sentient partnered with @floodlightnews.org to report on this topic if you'd like to read more!
The Climate Solution Sitting in America’s Trash
Cutting food waste is a huge potential climate win. Why are we ignoring it?

They war-gamed dimming the Sun. It went even worse than you think.
When it comes to deciding the fate of the planet, Colleen Golja always thought science and reason would have a seat at the table. That was until one morning last September in London, when the climate researcher took part in the first in a series of war games. The goal: to prevent an uncontrolled global race to develop a technology aimed at cooling the planet but that comes with vast, unknown risks that could reshape life on Earth. “I thought that would be such an easy thing. Like, we can all agree to do ethical research and make sure it’s for the better of all humans,” she told WIRED. “And boy, was I wrong.” The simulation, titled Exploring Geopolitical Tipping Points and Climate Cooling Strategies, saw a couple dozen foreign-relations experts, scientists, military personnel, and former government officials from across the world convene in a meeting room at Queen Mary University of London. After making introductions over coffee and little yogurts, they sat at tables arranged in a square with the name of the country or organization each person was playing: national governments, climate NGOs and nonprofits, indigenous groups, and tech companies. Golja was assigned to provide technical advice to...

Anthropic is preparing for a potential November public listing. The firm is currently disclosing Q3 financials to institutional investors as it pursues a $2 trillion valuation. The move comes amid rising market pressure and a high-stakes climate for major AI players.

A 24-nanometer platinum coating stayed largely intact in electrolyzer tests—potentially using about 88% less platinum than a 200-nanometer layer. Optimal thickness still depends on how it is made. doi.org/hcnb74
Less platinum, cheaper hydrogen: Ultrathin electrolyzer coatings show promise
Hydrogen is expected to become an important energy carrier of the future, particularly for industrial applications. But this requires climate-friendly technologies that split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Sorry that was a long vent & that I will use later today when talking to some town leaders. So thank you for that vent or it wouldn’t have stayed top of mind.
Roam free laws exist in almost every other country with similar climate conditions as Canada . NIMBYs don’t want none of that.

There nothing I would like cut in DESNZ budget (which already seems underfunded for the task).

However these cuts seem particularly poorly timed. Not just as with gas prices rising they look more attractive, the climate emergency and the urgent energy security need.
It is also starting to work.

Why is it this hot in the middle of October? It's 84 degrees! I bought a Toblerone yesterday and left it in my office and it's all melty. Climate change is taking our fall chocolates!

Welcome to the resistance, MAGA voters.

I'm glad you finally got to where we were nearly 2 decades ago. All it took was blowing up NATO, destroying our credit, health, economy, education, reputation, climate, and civil service, plus a few State-sponsored murders. Small prices to pay, really.

Most people don't understand "Net Zero" and just associate it with high energy bills, so it should be rebranded as "Clean Energy Transition" instead. @joshfg.bsky.social I emailed you about this, and to ask if you support a regular TV climate briefing, on 6 September. Can I have a response please? 🌍

I am still getting tomatoes from the plant in the garden.

No greenhouse.

It's mid October.

In England.

Today I also hung the laundry out to dry (😂😂😂) in the garden and it dried enough.

But yeah let's not discuss climate change!

Making it far too easy for members of the public to say "well, if the scientists aren't concerned enough to do anything, why should I?" Maybe it's a good job no-one trusts experts any more.

“They marketed the lie that individuals could stop climate change through personal accountability. It can’t."

Honestly, in the face of ever worsening climate change and the heat waves that have come along with all of that, it's been time to sunset the practice for a while now.

Like, I feel for the folks whose jobs these are, but the horses have no recourse in any of it.
New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin have reached a deal to abolish NYC's horse carriage industry — a critical breakthrough in a decadeslong, politically fraught effort to ban the tourist attraction. www.politico.com/news/2026/10...
Mamdani and City Council strike deal to ban NYC horse carriage industry
The deal marks a major breakthrough in a long-running effort to outlaw the industry. It is also likely to inflame Mamdani’s relationship with a powerful local union.
