"There is a clear parallel to the Luddites here, who were skilled technicians and clothmakers who weren’t worried about technology surpassing them, but the way factory owners used it to make cheaper, lower-quality goods that drove down prices."

As we continue reading, blood in the machine, a question came up
About what the modern day Luddite reaction would be to current technology taking over jobs that only made the wealthy even wealthier.

As an artist, as the clothmakers were, I don’t know how to combat ai like they did the machines

So many phrases in common use date back to the old medieval guild system. "Being on tenterhooks" is from clothmakers, referring to the hooks used to keep wet woollen cloth from shrinking as it dried.

Ancient clothmakers: we have invented the loom

Me: cool! So what's it do?

Clothmakers: it just kinda hangs around menacingly, I guess.

Still with the mis-information. The Luddites were not anti-tech. They were clothmakers themselves, using looms. The were opposed to the enclosure of the technology they used, just as commoners were opposed to the enclosure of the land they used, which denied them access to the means of production.

Yes
Serious knitters/spinners/weavers will pay for good quality wool. But, it’s got to be good wool.
Cotswolds, from what I see have wool that is better (strong) for items like coats &rugs, rather than sweaters/next to skin items.
In that sense, selling bulk to clothmakers is viable too

Shepherds and farmers harvest the wool and plants, selling it to clothmakers and weavers in larger towns who turn it into fabric. It might be bought as is or sold to dyers, who color it and sell it by the bolt. Tailors/seamstresses buy some, regular folk who sewn their own clothes buy the rest.

OH NO! The maker of the VERY expensive set of the Emperor's New Clothes has now found out that the pedler down the street DID copy his designs (which he in fact stole from millions of other clothmakers) and is stamping his feet in frustration at the lack of copyright protection for HIS DESIGNS! Wah!
