Awata-jinja (粟田神社) was the tribal shrine of the Awata clan (粟田氏), old long before Kyōto existed. The clan were famed as swordsmiths and traded heavily in mined minerals, foxtail millet and gourds. In the 7thC most of the clan left for Nagoya...the shrine survived.

A three of them have weapons named after them in "Wo Long" which is a game based on Three Kingdoms.
