In 1687, nineteen German swordsmiths settled beside the River Derwent in Shotley Bridge, bringing Europe’s finest blade-making skills to County Durham. Their work helped launch Britain’s early sword industry

The Shotley Bridge Sword Makers - Consett Magazine
The reasons behind their arrival in England remain partly veiled. Few contemporary records survive, and the late 1680s were unsettled years. King James II was

I think my father's side was just swordsmiths and mages, though. Nothing much to write home about there.

About 800 C, then rapid cooling.

The Japanese Sword Museum says swordsmiths coat the blade with heat-resistant clay: thin where hardening is intended, thicker elsewhere. They heat it to about 800 C before quenching.

It is also necessary that there be very large anime swordsmiths, but where do the modifiers land? Are only the swords very large and anime, or are the swordsmiths also very large and anime?

Basically, I'm asking as I have asked so often since 1976: Is it Bionic Sasquatch?

“"High-carbon steel is an awful lot harder to work…It became used by specialist swordsmiths." Then, around 1100 CE, the mysterious, intricately patterned blades simply vanished. Subsequent versions emerged (the most famous is Damascus steel), but Wootz steel had disappeared completely.”

Haha remember when it turned out the USA *never* knew how to make FOGBANK (interstage material probably an aerogel) when we went to LEP the W76?

“Lost knowledge regained” is a wrong: USA only explicitly learned what made FOGBANK pass its QC testing in mid-2000s.

I'm not joking, BTW. Take even the finest sword made by the finest swordsmiths of the 21st century, titanium, damascus steel, anything you like, swing it at this, you're more likely to damage the sword than you are the tank.

It was an unearthly science; secrets modern metallurgy still cannot mim...

I think it shows how good the design actually is, that even if made slightly wrong, it can work easily in real combat.

Thankfully, with more swordsmiths and martial artists trying it out irl, the reputation of the bat'leth has actually improved in recent years.

Look, the thing about Supergirl 2026 is that it's a Fallen Ronin Redemption story. I don't understand why so many critics fail to observe this. FFS, the little girl even comes from a long line of master swordsmiths!

Awata-jinja (粟田神社) was the tribal shrine of the Awata clan (粟田氏), old long before Kyōto existed. The clan were famed as swordsmiths and traded heavily in mined minerals, foxtail millet and gourds. In the 7thC most of the clan left for Nagoya...the shrine survived.

Awata-jinja's (粟田神社) paper omikuji, once read, can be folded into charming little birds.
The shrine once overlooked the famous Tōkaidō (東海道), linking Kyōto and Edo (江戸), and acted as the eastern entrance of the capital. This area was known for its swordsmiths.
