I finished The Killing Time yesterday - book 2 of the Ali Dawson Mysteries. About a group of cops who use time travel to solve coldcases. It's definitely a follow on from book 1 rather than a self-contained story. Written in the present tense which I find can be a bit unnerving. #BookSky

ACT Policing offers $500,000 rewards for five cold cases
ACT Policing has announced a $500,000 reward for information leading to the resolution of five cold cases, including a fatal kidnapping, a hit-and-run death, and the disappearances of two Canberra teenagers and a 35-year-old man. The cases span decades, with some dating back to the 1970s and 1980s. Dorothy Mulquiney, whose 17-year-old daughter Megan vanished from Woden Plaza in 1984, has long sought answers. Megan disappeared after finishing her shift at Big W, never making it to her bus home. Dorothy, now 80, hopes the reward will encourage someone to come forward with information. Police have followed various leads over the years, including questioning a convicted rapist who was later ruled out. The reward is part of a broader strategy to generate renewed public awareness and encourage witnesses to come forward, especially as some potential offenders may have passed away. Detective Sergeant Marriott noted that while financial rewards are often a 'last-ditch effort,' they remain effective in generating leads. The cases include the disappearance of Elizabeth Herfort in 1980, David Abuoi in 2012, and the death of Keren Rowland in 1971, whose body was found three months after her disappearance. Police have conducted extensive searches and consulted with experts to understand possible scenarios, but remain without confidence in explaining the disappearances. Dorothy Mulquiney expressed that she hopes the rewards will lead to breakthroughs in any of the cases, even if Megan's remains unsolved. She emphasized the need to 'put Megan to rest properly before I pass away,' highlighting the emotional toll on families of the missing. The police have also highlighted their long-term commitment to solving cold cases, referencing a recent case where a 1999 murder led to the imprisonment of two men after five years of investigation. The announcement aims to provide hope to families who have waited decades for answers, acknowledging that 'life circumstances change' and that new information may emerge over time.

Caught by a Mistake: How Minor Crimes Topple Criminal Masterminds & Serial Killers
Ever wonder how the world's most notorious criminals—masterminds who thought they were untouchable—ended up behind bars? It wasn't a master detective movie moment; it was a parking ticket. 🚨 In this episode, we pull back the curtain on the fascinating true crime phenomenon where the smallest slip-ups toppled the biggest criminal empires. We explore the criminal psychology of arrogance and how the most prolific serial killers and corrupt figures in history were undone not by their grand atrocities, but by mundane, tiny mistakes. Why You Need to Listen: - The Al Capone Trap: How the most powerful mobster in history was brought down by taxes, not bootlegging. - The Bundy Oversight: The simple traffic stop that finally ended the reign of a monster. - Small Crimes, Big Collapses: Why diligent police work thrives on the details criminals ignore. This isn't just another true crime recap; it’s an investigation into why arrogance is a criminal's greatest weakness. If you love deep dives into cold cases, police investigations, and the irony of justice, this episode is built for you. 🎧 Ready to uncover the truth?
