#colontown
When Rob got diagnosed, the good people at Colontown told me not to google statistics - they no longer applied. Every 3 months he gets a blood test based off his initial tumor to determine if there is any cells running wild in his system.

It’s amazing. I’m grateful every day.
The year I was born. we basically had no idea why cancers happened and now we understand the underlying force behind it with 100% clarity and the molecular forces behind it with many orders of magnitude more resolution.

We were entirely in the dark, and now the room is lit.

I'm terribly sorry. I was diagnosed stage 4 8.5 years ago -- just days after my 44th birthday. Stage 4 is no longer an automatic terminal diagnosis. I have been NED for 6 years. It cost me a lung lobe, but I'm still avidly running and cycling. If you haven't, already, check out colontown.org

Whatever your test results, don't do it alone. There are great support groups online that will get you through it, or celebrate with you. My favorite is Colontown, currently on Facebook.

Renamed the recurring chemotherapy appointment in my calendar to "Do some hardcore drugs" to make it sound more fun.

Next up: inventing some The Wire-style street names for Oxaliplatin and Fluorouracil and trying them out over on the Colontown message boards.

LOLOLOLOL well he might get to keep it! Rob did! Not all chemo makes you lose your hair. Apparently this is one of them!

If you haven’t checked it out already, you should look into colontown! It really helped us navigate this stupid stupid thing.

Excited to learn from this awesome panel at #AACR2025 as we talk about EO Cancers & their rising rates
As an early onset #colorectalcancer survivor & as someone who sees the impact of #EOCRC daily in #COLONTOWN, we need more concerted efforts to reduce the burden of EOCRC worldwide.

POLYPS MAY BECOME COLON CANCER. IN VETERANS, IT WOULD BE AGGRESSIVE, TYPICALLY FATAL WITHIN A YEAR, SO WE BETTER GET ALL COLON POLYPS OUT FOR BIOPSIES, WITH A 5 MM CLEAR, CANCER-FREE MARGIN. IF THERE ARE TOO MANY POLYPS, GET THE 5MM, BIGGER POLYPS OUT.

For each question, Julie& I had recommendations for clinicians.
For example, in our survey in colontown 31% of respondents indicated that "nothing was discussed" about #BiomarkerTesting before testing was done.
Our recommendation? see 💡below.

Here is the respondent profile. In colontown, our membership is skewed towards stage IV or metastatic #CRC & this is reflected in this poll as well. 44% of patients were seen at an NCI cancer center.

In @colontown, we have people posting their biomarker test results regularly asking what they mean. This made @cagirlinchi & I wonder how results of biomarker testing is communicated to patients. This poster is the result of our inquiry into this.
