They brought it back with CommonCore but it’s been hampered by being paired with standardized testing, which incentivizes the exact opposite teaching techniques necessary. I suspect that was a factor in the “failure” of 50’s “New Math” too, but our data isn’t great on that.

Having 50 states doing there own thing is never going to get us moving up the international comparison scale. Trumpvosky touts Nordic country success along with Chi-na but the all have a singular focus. One which we are eliminating. #CommonCore

I was only concerned with the math side back when I read the proposals and early textbooks with their stamp of approval, but AFAIK English CommonCore is its own whole different can of worms, though it’s hopefully saved Gen Alpha from “Intuitive Reading” at least?

Completely agree! Part of why I used my previous teaching experience from the 90s to bring in art that connected to more than just reading/social studies, unfortunately much of the actual educating in the states has been widdled down to constant prep testing & static methods like commoncore.
