"So I won't have concurrency problems, right? ... Right?"
sqlite solves all your problems. you will certainly not regret running 50m sqlites
it's funny that this is like, Veteran Wisdom, but as a general rule postgres is fine, and if you are using something that is not postgres you had better have a good reason why it's not postgres.

sqlite is fine as long as you know it's small

No scale? No problem.

But off the top of my head I've run into: terrible concurrency w/per process connections, garbage and VACUUM overhead/performance, crappy heuristics query planner, WAL replication but DIY failover, no horizontal write scaling, write contention, jittery query latency, etc.
there is no reason to make a new database. postgres can do it. if you think postgres can't do it, you just haven't found the right way to enable it in pg_settings yet

DeepSeek sets account-level concurrency limits at 2,500 requests for V4.1 Flash and 500 requests for V4 Pro. If you run parallel pipelines, concurrency caps matter more than raw token rates.

https://3ammarketer.com/blog/deepseek-api-pricing
DeepSeek API Pricing: V4.1 Rates, Cache, and Limits
DeepSeek API token pricing ranges from $0.15 to $3.96 per million tokens. Compare peak versus off-peak rates, prompt caching, and 2,500 concurrency caps.

🟨 SPEAKER DETECTED: Nicolai Parlog @nipafx.dev

Java 25 is LTS but Java keeps moving.

In this 90-minute deep dive, Nicolai explores Java 28 across the language, APIs and runtime: pattern matching, structured concurrency, HTTP/3, value classes and more.

🧵 Concurrency is tricky. So how do Rust, JavaScript, and Go handle it?

A big thank you to Roberto Clapis for exploring the different approaches these languages take to concurrency and parallelism, and the challenges they face along the way! 🚀 #GoLab2026

I could actually see where that would actually be useful, e.g. you need concurrency and have no way to host it. Not ideal, but cool.

it's honestly impressive that they managed to mess up the features that don't even involve concurrency or distributed systems, i didn't know that was possible

Async Rust: Where does the scheduler live?
It turns out that some issues people have with async Rust are just downstream of hard concurrency problems.

Preventing Overselling: Inventory Decrements Under Microsecond Concurrency

When systems face concurrency spikes, negative inventory counts when multiple carts check out simultaneously.

Core takeaway: Conditional atomic UPDATE with WHERE quantity >= :qty rather than SELECT-then-UPDATE.

I run qfn on a 4 x 5060ti threadripper. With concurrency 4. I get about 120 tok/s combined. 2000 prefill. Very usable. Usinh a fork of freetoken. Cancelled my OpenAI last week.

I ran MongoDB in 2011-2012 getting a startup off the ground. We got some pretty hecking great *concurrency* out of Mongo by treating it as it was actually built, not like it was a cheaper MySQL. This was before most of the table locking work was done!

I'd do it again.
there are ops people who will still never run mongo by choice, despite mean having basically won web mindshare for a number of years, because of how much trust they set on fire a decade ago, it's genuinely mind blowing
MongoDB became popular by doing essentially the 2010's equivalent of this. Rigor is as much as anything else about accurately conveying what you think you know and why. The problem isn't that AI wrote it, it's that you misrepresented it as more trustworthy than it is.

The Fallacy of 'Throw Redis at It' for Database Lock Contention

When systems face concurrency spikes, race conditions and cache stampedes under high concurrency.

Core takeaway: Redis object caching mitigates read pressure, but transactional writes still require serializable fences.

I agree. I think there is a sliver of positivity here, in that we should reinvent and maliciously enforce the epistemic standard for mission critical software (like the things that ground our distributed concurrency) to a level that it always should have had. See my prior post. :)
It's also the case that we should be demanding from our database vendors that they publish artifacts like Jepsen reports or the output of a system like Specula. We should inform our vendor decisions based on their demonstration of quality work. Which is GREAT, Actually!

extremely capable for its size, and that size is what I can fit on my hardware at those concurrency levels

I have Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in the mix, but I can't run that as fast or as many of them. very excited for Qwen 4 this week, though
