I am broken-hearted at the terrible news that my alma mater, @hampshirecollege.bsky.social, after 56 yrs, is closing. Its death is a victory for conformism, for corporatism, for higher education's dull love of hierarchy & status. It's a grievous defeat for imagination & experimentation.

1. counter-cultural commitments to relational egalitarianism & mutual consideration seem like stodgy, censorious conformism;
2. degenerate commitments to bigotry & complacency seem like high-minded tolerance & defiance

Normalizing racism was a major goal of the “free speech absolutist” movement and they’ve been wildly successful at their work.

-Universities can and should do more to counter groupthink and conformism, which can undermine their teaching and research missions
-No one in higher education should make common cause with the authoritarian attack on academic freedom in the U.S.

General theory of this: you have to be kinda anti-conformist to have the sorta politics that would result in being in a DSA chapter, all the more so if you are not in a solidly leftwing state. But anti-conformism is not a good means of forming a worldview, and such people make for bad organisations.
Kinda sucks that the swing state DSA chapters are the most brainwormed

Anyway, fuck conforming to stereotypes, of gender, sexuality, dress, whatever. Life is too short to worry about what terrified little people think. Conformism is intellectual and emotional death.
