I’ve never donated to CPRE - because of this I might.
We want the government to push for a rooftop revolution, including fitting solar panels on car parks.

The Times reported that Ed Miliband said “Right now, the sun is shining on hundreds of thousands of car parking spaces across the country which could be used to power our homes and businesses”.
Every new car park may have to be covered with solar panels
Solar canopies would be compulsory under proposals estimated to save £28,000 on electricity bills at an 80-space car park

I’m shocked, shocked to learn that a report by CPRE arguing for building “somewhere else” might be economical with the facts.
Nothing in this acknowledges the economic reality of why many brownfield sites don’t get away as housing: they’re not financially viable unless someone (usually us, in some form) pays for them to be cleaned up and made ready
Almost 1.5m homes could be built on brownfield sites in England, report finds

Yet again CPRE are claiming there's sufficient brownfield land and we don't need to build on any countryside. There are many reasons why this isn't correct 🧵

A simple bill to require developers to fit solar panels to all new buildings is a step too far for the new UK government. www.cpre.org.uk/news/sunshin...

Anyone who thinks you can solve London's housing crisis, the product of several decades of not building enough houses, without building more houses, does not deserve to be taken seriously. Nor does anyone tagging the NIMBY ultras of CPRE into a discussion on housing.

The rally was “government-sanctioned” and “attracted approximately 2,000 participants.”

That’s before you get into land ownership and infrastructure

Yes, CPRE would say this. But it isn’t the whole story, anymore than lobbying from developers is the whole story

(I put CBRE initially: very different people, I’m tired)

given the Labour party's utter determination to alienate the left, when the Greens are now facing a choice between the United CPRE "Wait Who's The Leader Again?" Front and the hypnoboobs guy, they should go for the latter every time

"This book overflows with information... which will be
useful to anyone campaigning to defend the countryside"

A lovely review of THE LIE OF THE LAND by the former director of CPRE, Chris Hall, in 'Open Space', the magazine of the Open Spaces Society:

These are presumably the Home Counties-type voters where the Greens are essentially the provisional wing of CPRE? Obviously hugely at odds with the lefty metropolitan Greens but that contradiction won't get exposed until they're in government, for which see the LibDems after 2010.
