Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) are holding an event in Glastonbury tonight regarding looking into turning the levels into a national park. So needed, but as govt is trying to sneak two data centres within a mile or two of each other here, much more support is needed to make it a reality.
Have you had your say yet?

As part of our big idea to get people talking about the potential for the Somerset Levels to become a National Park, we want to hear from you...
Our short survey only takes a few minutes - we'd love to hear from you!

I once had to explain to a CPRE chugger in Hebden Bridge making his pitch that "without the green belt the whole Calder Valley would be a continuous housing estate" (I paraphrase) that Todmorden wasn't in the green belt and seemed to be OK.

That’s where CPRE Oxfordshire’s Green Defenders come in.

We’re looking for people across Oxfordshire who care about the places they live and want to help make sure planning decisions properly consider the needs of local communities and the environment.

Marcus Gilleard, CPRE Oxfordshire: “There is substantial previously developed land identified across Oxfordshire with potential for housing. Every site has its own constraints, but making the best use of brownfield land should be an important part of planning while protecting the countryside.”
September 22, 2026 at 3:17 PM
The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England has launched a new campaign 'Brownfield First' after having identified has identified space for 8,340 potential homes on brownfield sites across four Oxfordshire authorities.
