The crocodile massacre of Ramree Island is a WW2 myth blown out of all proportion with hundreds of men supposedly eaten by a thousand crocodiles, but it is still horrifying to imagine being a soldier in line to ford a creek and you've watched nine of the men in front of you get eaten by crocodiles.

Well designed infrastructure enables safe mobility for the young, the old, and those simply seeking reassurance from the constant threat of cars. Walking and biking shouldn't feel like a balance beam over crocodiles. It should feel naturally insulated from lethal danger.
