Italy's statistics agency Istat recorded 106 femicides in 2024 with a population of 59 million.

At least 103 women were killed by domestic violence in Australia, according to the
Femicide Watch, with a population of 27 million!

Where is Australia's DV laws? 😡😤☹😎

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says the measure will help "defend the freedom and dignity of every woman", following a series of killings and other violence targeting women in Italy.

I'm old enough to remember when pretty much all of the mainstream media regularly praised Abbott for being the politician with the deepest connection to Indig Australians because he visited a community every year, patted some kids on the head and hammered a few nails.
poor old Tony Abbott is on the public broadcaster dismissing the oldest and longest continuous oral histories in the history of humanity as “hearsay” how’s your morning going.

"Women, meanwhile, become the vessel for national disgust. The perfect container for a public morality play because they’re visible and culturally legible. You can point at them and say: see, this is what happens when women step outside acceptable scripts.” #auspol

On behalf of all women, we plead that the Australian government take urgent action to prevent male violence against us. Current approaches are not working! Take. This. Seriously. It's well over time that women stopped living in fear.

More women have been killed by male violence since 2020 than all Australians killed by shark attacks, terrorism and one punch attacks combined in the last 25 years.

“Men get a larger overall share of the benefits of Australia’s current tax expenditures and deductions . . . and in news that will not shock many, men receive a greater share of the benefits of our tax settings than women.” - Gemma Killen

(Yes, I’m reposting a lot of quote from this piece because it’s a timely ‘connection of dots’ that just full of sharp, insightful … quotable … lines).

Hundreds of calls going unanswered, 20% of victim-survivors are without crisis accommodation. Women & children are disproportionately affected by homelessness due to violence & abuse by men. @albomp.bsky.social thinks we’re not worthy of an RC. But a minority is & receives $604m in funding.

The government has published no evidence to suggest that cutting disability benefits will get people back to work.

The evidence it has published found that these cuts would plunge hundreds of thousands of people into poverty.

I’m joining @trusselluk.bsky.social in calling on the gov’t to rethink
I’m joining @trusselluk.bsky.social in calling on the government to rethink its cruel, shameful & completely irresponsible plan to cut benefits which will plunge 250,000 people, including 50,000 children into poverty - on its own impact analysis

This is how you can help

Marty Sheargold said that the Matildas players reminded him of "year 10 girls".
Good riddance. As bad on the Matildas as Hinch was on the AFLW.
Enough is enough of these men who are so unkind about women and sport .

A critique of AUKUS that suggests our defense policy is less about security and more about a 125-year-old cultural habit of seeking a protector.

Australian leaders consider maintaining the relationship with the United States to be their most vital defence responsibility.

We need a single central watchdog to bring our domestic, sexual and family violence services in line - to ensure best-practice supports for women and children.

Both major parties talk big about how important it is to prevent domestic and family violence but as @mattgrudnoff.bsky.social & @jack-thrower.bsky.social note - when you look at the size of spending a lot of other things seem more important... #OffTheCharts
