The Russians arguably got to #cryonics first, at least in fiction. Aleksandr Beliaev's novel "Professor Dowell's Head" (Голова профессора Доуэля, 1937) involves a brilliant scientist, a demented acolyte, a horrified research assistant, and Paris in the 1920s. Still a vintage sci-fi classic.

Dr Kennedy must contend with kooky characters like Ada Wong, an undercover medical insurance agent, Alex Wesker, a cryonics enthusiast, and Miranda, an aromatherapist treating patients with green and yellow herbs.

(It's still called Biohazard in Japan)

For everyone who does not want to die, Nectome is having a sale. This company is, in my view, the most scientifically plausible cryonics company.

NEW today! Wes Craven's 'Chiller' asks the question: what happens when a previously good-natured corporate exec is revived from cryonic suspension? Hint: he becomes a cold-blooded psychopath.
Tubular Terrors: Wes Craven’s ‘Chiller’
By K.E. Roberts An engraving with the words “They Shall See Tomorrow” hangs outside the cryonics facility at the beginning of Wes Craven’s Chiller (1985), probably the most damning treatment of the…

#DidYouKnow that we’re running a makeshift cryonics lab in Tripley Hall? Donate millions to campus and we’ll stash you in one of our spare freezers until we can either resurrect you or the power goes out and your body accidentally thaws out. The Ledger calls it “Horrifying.”

🟢 If the cryonics story is physically impossible and has been debunked for sixty years, why do you think people still repeat it as fact?

He was cremated 48 hours after he died. The first human ever frozen came 28 days later. The myth never cared about the timeline.

Walt Disney Was Not Cryogenically Frozen. The Story Started As A Joke And Never Stopped.
econopass.com · Marco Bellinari Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966. He was cremated two days later. The first human ever cryonically preserved was James Bedford, on January 12, 1967, twenty-eight days after Disney was already ash. The story has no source, no evidence, and is physically impossible given the timeline. It has survived for nearly sixty years anyway.

Ray Kurzweil has paid to have his body frozen when he dies. He's also building a digital copy of his own mind, the way he already built one of his father.

Freeze the body. Copy the mind. Bring them back together.

Which one is him?

Ray Kurzweil has a backup plan. Mind uploading, cryonics and the problem of other minds: if a perfect copy of you woke up, could it ever know it was you?

Cryonics' real hurdle isn't freezing; it's vitrification. To avoid ice crystals shredding cells, we turn organs into solid glass. Biology meets physics!
