While perfectly specific, the sensitivity of cystine crystalluria is quite low.

My Sushi Roll has crystalluria and a UTI. She needs special Rx food for the rest of her life now, but this will stop her discomfort and peeing blood. Grateful so, so, so much that it's not something worse than urinary tract crystals.

19/19 that’s it, be aware that IV acyclovir can cause AKI, watch for crystalluria during its use because it may precede AKI, and also during AKI. If biopsy, expect ATN. If you ever find tissue crystals, please publish it! The end. 🔬

19/19 that’s it, be aware that IV acyclovir can cause AKI, watch for crystalluria during its use because it may precede AKI, and also during AKI. If biopsy, expect ATN. If you ever find tissue crystals, please publish it! The end. 🔬
10/n I was able to find in PubMed 9 cases with needle-shaped urine crystals, but only 6 of them had concomitant AKI. See my tally below. In other words, finding abundant crystals at the time of AKI does not seem to be common. Probably crystalluria precedes it.

It's not uncommon but it's almost strictly a male cat thing and it happens when crystals or stones form in the bladder, primarily as the result of recurring UTIs, chronic crystalluria, or liver/kidney disease.
