“Nest” sculpture made with knitting needles and crocheted metal thread. #kenaiartcenter #darkfruitflystudio #knitting #artist #ArtAdventCalendar #Alaska #birds #nest
This sculpture piece is entitled “Nest”. I created a nest by using knitting needles intertwined like sticks in a real birds nest. The knitting needles are a variety of thicknesses and colors. For the inner lining of the nest I used a very finely crocheted metal thread. This gives the appearance of a soft inner lining to the nest. Thank you for reading Diane

Day 5 of #JanuArty #JanuArty2025 The theme today is “light”. I chose this photo of myself because I love the light that has cast onto my face. #Alaska #DarkFruitFlyStudio #art #light
This is a photo of myself. I am in a dark room sitting with my eyes closed. I moved my head into a beam of sunlight that is shining from my studio window. The beam of sunlight almost forms a letter shape…like a the letter “T”…on the center of my face. I loved playing with the light. Thanks for reading, Diane.

A photo of the work bench in my studio. It is covered in a hundred + items! The main focus of the photo is the brightly colored/patterned origami paper that is getting folded into cranes. Also in the picture: bottle of paint, brayers and jars filled with paint brushes. I tend to work well amongst the chaos. Thanks for reading. Diane

Day 9 #ArtAdventCalendar

This is a photo of me seated in a chair and painting a red canvas with hundreds of white circles of all sizes. I am wearing a red wig, a red shirt with white circles on it and black shoes with white circles on them. There is a mannequin of a torso that has been painted red and covered in white circles. This is an ode to the Artists Yayoi Kusama. She is known for her use of millions of dots in her art to symbolize the universe that infinitely surrounds us. The painting is part of the “Mural Project” that takes place every year at the Kenai Art Center. Each artist is designated a portion of a large canvas that extends around the whole perimeter of the gallery. A theme is chosen for the show and artists can interpret it as they like with their work.
