“Nest” sculpture made with knitting needles and crocheted metal thread. #kenaiartcenter #darkfruitflystudio #knitting #artist #ArtAdventCalendar #Alaska #birds #nest
This sculpture piece is entitled “Nest”. I created a nest by using knitting needles intertwined like sticks in a real birds nest. The knitting needles are a variety of thicknesses and colors. For the inner lining of the nest I used a very finely crocheted metal thread. This gives the appearance of a soft inner lining to the nest. Thank you for reading Diane

“2000 Journals” Installation and performance piece. Day 6 #ArtAdventCalendar #KenaiArtCenter #Alaska #performanceart #journals #art
A gallery space is filled with 2000 hand made (printed and bound by hand) journals. Each cover is unique. It took 1 year to complete the project with each journal reflecting a moment in time. The audience was encouraged to pick up a journal, write a thought/reflection and return it to a stack on the floor. Also in this picture you will see me sitting at a desk in the middle of the 2000 journals. I am recording, in my own journal, my thoughts and observations while engaging the audience.

Day 9 #ArtAdventCalendar

This is a photo of me seated in a chair and painting a red canvas with hundreds of white circles of all sizes. I am wearing a red wig, a red shirt with white circles on it and black shoes with white circles on them. There is a mannequin of a torso that has been painted red and covered in white circles. This is an ode to the Artists Yayoi Kusama. She is known for her use of millions of dots in her art to symbolize the universe that infinitely surrounds us. The painting is part of the “Mural Project” that takes place every year at the Kenai Art Center. Each artist is designated a portion of a large canvas that extends around the whole perimeter of the gallery. A theme is chosen for the show and artists can interpret it as they like with their work. Thanks for reading. Diane A photo of me sitting in a white box that is painted with red circles. I am wearing a bright red wig and a black shirt covered in red and white circles.
